Materials used within Afternoon Tea play an important role, creating contrast between soft textured upholstery with marble, stained wood and metal. All pieces are made by hand in the studio workshops in Europe and U.K. Overall the dining chairs, armchairs, sofa, coffee and occasional tables feel warm and welcoming.

To create these soft sculptures, she wraps scraps of worn trousers, curtains, and scarves around a padded, wire armature, defining a muscular hind leg with tweed or a stomach with an embroidered fairytale scene. The tattered edges mimic a tousled tail and the fringe sticking up from an ear, adding lifelike texture to the canines.

Japanese artist Tomohiro Suzuki is behind the minimal wooden menagerie of Kyoto-based workshop Kokemusu Mokkou. From hunks of walnut, Suzuki carves miniature sculptures of wildlife like antelope, elephants, and bears, with innumerable divots and gouges forming the distinct textured patterns of their coats or skin.
