Sadly, attending the 2022 Monterey Car Week & Concours wasn’t in our cards this year, but we did continue to keep tabs from afar about the bevy of announcements made ahead and at the annual automotive event. One of the most notable and surprising of automotive reveals was the debut of the Lincoln Model L100 Concept , a future-gazing electric autonomous vehicle intending to plant the seeds of design and technology as the brand celebrates its hundredth year.

“Toronto high-rises are thin,” says architect Brigitte Shim , surveying the skyline from the rooftop terrace of the new Ace Hotel Toronto. She means that they are schematically thin — tall and narrow, like pencils — and also materially thin, made of reedlike steel and cheap glass. But she’s also referring to a kind of conceptual thinness. In Toronto, most condo buildings — the city’s dominant architectural form — aspire to little beyond their utilitarian purpose.

After years holding temporary pop-ups in spaces all over London and the South East, Migrateful was looking for a permanent home. When the U.K. charity (which has been offering culinary training to and classes led by refugees, asylum seekers and migrants since 2017) found a former classroom in a community centre in leafy Clerkenwell, it turned to London architecture practice Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) for a hand in developing its new Migrateful Kitchen.

Two and a half years into the pandemic , Italy’s — and the world’s — design capital was ablaze with creativity once again. The fairgrounds themselves were fully activated: Rather than the abbreviated experience of last September’s Supersalone, every padiglione at Salone del Mobile 2022 was full as leading furniture companies, from Living Divani and Poliform to the kitchen brands showing in EuroCucina, returned to erect massive stands.
