UK-based lettering artist and type designer OliFrape has captured the country's mood in his latest personal project, Sign of The Times. Inspired by old-school signs and adverts, these hand-drawn posters tackle the nation's current state with a dry smile. If you live in Britain, chances are you might be feeling a little.
Marbles is just one of the 25 typefaces on offer, alongside the rule-breaking contribution by Non-Format called F37 Lara, plus Anthony Burrill's font inspired by the lettering found on cardboard boxes, appropriately titled Box.
Other artists who have contributed include Rose Blake, Rob Flowers, Yukai Du, Timothy Hunt, Ruby Taylor, Nina Cosford, Bett Norris, Cajsa Holgersson, and OliFrape, who each offer a different visual approach to the message that while the virus may keep us apart, kindness will keep us together.
This involved layering elements inspired by packaging, stickers, menus, and receipts to create a vibrant visual tapestry. By immersing ourselves in the culture and taking inspiration from an array of different places, we managed to capture the appeal, diversity and energy of a whole sector in a single identity.
