Once scanned back into her computer and assembled using free video editing software, the results are strikingly original and full of texture. Analogue is the way to go for many other resourceful creatives, including photographer Molly Matalon who makes stunning work with “a crappy little point-and-shoot from 2004”.

Plastic buttons, rhinestones, glitter, and sequins add textured dimension to the dense prismatic seascapes of tropical fish and plants.

Hale is an artist well worth following because he continues to grow and evolve in interesting ways I've just received an advance copy of Hale's beautiful new book, Use Music to Kill , a collection of his work from 2004 to 2018. The paper may have textures, random stains or wrinkles, or an occasional stray bit of text.
