Davenport’s influence can be felt across a good share of Sharp Type’s catalog, but his first solo project was Garnett , released at the end of 2018. I watched Garnett (formerly known as Blake) grow and evolve, both on Davenport’s Tumblr and on his Instagram.

Garnett is a sturdy, contemporary grotesk designed by Connor Davenport and published through Sharp Type. Orpheus by Canada Type is inspired by two serif typefaces originally designed by Walter Tiemann in 1928, which became popular within packaging and entertainment design.

Garnett is a sturdy, contemporary grotesque infused with the affable quirkiness of 19th-century metal type. With eight display weights, from Thin to Black, plus a further three weights drawn specifically for text, this is a versatile font for the contemporary world but with all the cleanness and legibility of the original.
