Much of the work we do as designers, publishers, and artists remain mystified to our peers and the community at large. As a designer and artist myself, and as someone who has been in and out of the realm of independent publishing, I wanted to lift the veil and ask practical questions to independent publishers about how they make it work.

The program offers two awards of $3,500 and four of $1,000. Submissions will be juried by Lauren Rosati, Associate Curator, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City and Maya Brooks, Assistant Curator, North Carolina Museum of Art. Flights, travel insurance, accommodation, per diems, and visa reimbursements will be provided.

All three artists will have the opportunity to develop and lead a public program at the museum. Art21 Educators Program (International) Art21 Educators is an intensive, year-long professional development initiative and learning community. Their work will be installed from May 2024 through May 2025. Deadline: February 4, 2024.

Collection of the artist, courtesy of Ota Fine Arts. One photographer will receive a €50,000 grant to produce a body of work, followed by a traveling exhibition and a monograph. Residents receive a $1,000 stipend, up to $700 for child care and/or disability support, and up to $300 in travel. Deadline: 11:59 p.m.

Open Calls The Aperture Portfolio Prize (International) Photographers are encouraged to submit innovative bodies of work that haven’t been previously published or exhibited. The first prize winner will be published in Aperture and receive $3,000 in cash, a $1,000 MPB gift card, and an exhibition in New York City.
