Van Herpen founded her eponymous brand in 2007 and has since created a vast oeuvre embracing the beauty of the natural world. Other works are similarly shapely, like those in Hypnosis , which feature bulbous skirts and mind-bending patterns that sway with mesmerizing movement.

The rapidly progressing effects of the climate crisis are changing agricultural patterns and thus the natural cycles that have been part of life for centuries. Opened in 2007, the studio boasts a robust ecosystem of women-led artisanal work, much of which focuses on traditional systems and sustainability.

Water in the Southern Hemisphere by Ron Arad I saw this when it was first exhibited in Milan in 2007 in exactly this setting. Theirs is one of the oldest extant races on Earth; it is as if their 60,000-year-old relationship with their land is flowing through them onto the canvas in these patterns of dotted paint marks.
