Composed of colored light bulbs and various mechanisms within a light box, a rare example on view in the gallery creates a hypnotic, colorful Rorschach with intriguing color transitions and ethereal auras.

American artist Soo Sunny Park took over Rice Gallery, part of Rice University in Houston, Texas, in 2013 with a glistening, labor intensive, abstract installation called Unwoven Light. The suspended piece was made up of 37 individual units composed of chain link fencing that was arranged into a sculptural form that was all about light.

The towering sculptures are part of the Wara Art Festival , a summertime event that displays massive animals and mythical creations fashioned from the crop’s leftover straw. The monumental figures stand as high as 30 feet, looming over the green landscape in a playful celebration of local culture.
