He used drugs for 30 years and was in numerous recovery programs before coming to Earl’s Place. In 2017, Andrew Mangum was first introduced to some of the residents of Earl’s Place in Baltimore, a transitional housing program for people in recovery from addiction. The project culminated in a book and exhibition.

They were looking for safe, protected places to stay while traveling when a friend recommended womyn’s lands—historic and revolutionary communities built by lesbians in the 1970s and ’80s.
