Studiolo Secondari has been sharing the work and stories of brilliant women in design, culture, and the arts weekly through our "Women Wednesdays" social media series. In 1931 she designed the cover for die neue linie , a popular magazine for young women at the time. Some of her works are now held at the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation.

Born in 1955 near Boston, MA to parents who were both creative professionals, Sandhaus grew up in the kind of design-filled home that had a printmaking workshop—which doubled as a ping pong table—in its basement. She moved up quickly in the company, beginning as a staff designer before transitioning to art director by 23.

I spent my time printmaking which I loved, however I left with no real life design skills. I used to collect a magazine called Frankie and saw an advert for Shillington College, so I went to the open day in Manchester back in 2014 and knew it was exactly what I wanted to do. I had never used InDesign before.

Chikako Oguma is a Japanese Art Director and Designer who showcases some of her work on her Instagram—definitely worth a follow for her wonderful minimal aesthetic. The Shillington New York graduate has been using her Instagram as an art and lettering journal for a few years now and its packed with beauties. Chikako Oguma. Timba Smits.

Whilst Halsted is reminiscent of both the 1920s Art Deco movement and its revival in the ’70s. His publication is a transdisciplinary journal that explores the intersection of typography, language and the visual arts. Though we were even more struck by his work with the Field Museum for 2019’s youth-led Climate Strike.

Offset: Book and Advertising Art, Bauhaus Issue vol. These elements were used throughout the Bauhaus’ printed output, such as teaching materials and promotional ephemera like posters and pamphlets, as well as the school’s self-published magazines and books.
