As Francisco Laranjo noted in Modes of Criticism , the rise of critical design marked a shift from ’90s-era ‘designer as author’ to the more expansive ‘designer as researcher.’

You get out of the program whatever you choose put in, so give it all you got, push yourself and be a sponge to the whole experience. The alumni I spoke with only had very good things to say about the program so that encouraged my decision as well. I studied Fine Art and graduated in 2015. And have fun!

.” As part of Call of the Void , an exhibition at Museum Tinguely in Basel, Ballen presents photographs from two bodies of work, Asylum of the Birds and Roger’s Rats. A catalog for the exhibition is also available via Kehrer Verlag. The harder I try, and the closer I get, the less I understand.
