It’s widely believed that designers are busy asking people what they prefer, but haven’t we all heard the fake Henry Ford’s quote about faster horses? In 2009, Walmart lost a tremendous amount of money after having launched “an uncluttering project” and asking their customers whether they’d like “Walmart aisles to be less cluttered?”.

This could be in the form of a client who’s willing to take a chance on us and give us our first project to get going. When we started, we didn’t have a client. I met him and his partner John Boiler first at a meeting for Xbox, a client his agency 72andsunny and AKQA that I was working for shared from 2005 or 2006 for multiple years.
