James Edmonson’s Eckmannpsych and Cheee may look different, but they share a similar spirit. Cheee is a free interpretation of Aldo Novarese’s Sintex , originally designed in 1973 for the Phototype foundry Visual Graphics Corporation (VGC). Eckmannpsych and Cheee were released as some of the first Future Fonts.
The wordmark, typeset in Oh No's Cheee , which is described as a "high contrast blobber, designed to be used large, and for a slightly stoney vibe", is exactly that: a slightly stoney vibe of a blobber that for some unknown reason fits perfectly a brand of healthy, feel-good snack bars made in Colorado. It's famed for making quirky and experimental fonts with character, such as Hobeaux (2015), Ohno Blazeface" (2019) and Cheee (2020), but has also released a few more mainstream typefaces such as Obviously and Degular.
