His hair is a neatly styled afro, a symbol of both fashion and culture at the time. He stands in a power stance, eyeing the camera with an intense, confident gaze.

A decade ago, the so-called “smart home” with wifi-connected heating, lighting, media and surveillance systems would have seemed like a techno-fantasy ripped from Blade Runner. The Barclay Center facade consists of 12,000 weathered steel panels that were electronically tagged and assembled using an iPhone app.
