Those final two are recognised as some of the finest examples of 20th century book design. But he also studied portraiture and painting at the Royal College of Arts, lending his design work a fine art quality.

Dubbed 'one of the most progressive figures in fine art photography', Garry Fabian Miller's work is currently on show at the Arnolfini Gallery in Bristol. Tom Hingston, founder of his eponymous London-based studio , was tasked with creating the graphics for the show, working closely with the artist.

Café Royal Books has only ever been me. I studied Fine Art and had just finished my masters. It’s been neglected by galleries, because it’s not fine art and the photographers haven’t really had a platform to present that work easily and affordably. There’s an artist called Lucy Lippard.

This was a response to the proliferation of more standardised, industrialised design during the Victorian era.
