The design of the flag has been credited as in 2004, it was ranked as the twenty-fourth best flag design out of 150 city flags by the North American Vexillological Association, and was the top-rated tricolor. However, they switched this up to a black and gold color scheme in 1948, to match the colors of the Pittsburgh flag.
