Winners of Indigo Design Award 2023 announced at glittering ceremony in Georgia

Victors of the 2023 global design awards recently gathered in Tbilisi to receive their gongs. Find out who won what and how you can enter next year's competition with a special discount on submission fees.

Celebrating "trail-blazers, risk-takers and all those on the cutting edge of the visual design world", the Indigo Design Award is a prestigious global competition that anyone can enter. The benefits of winning are extensive, but one of the most obvious is being invited to the glittering award ceremony.

This year's event occurred in Tbilisi, Georgia, and not by accident. The Eastern European nation is currently one of the hottest hubs for digital nomads, and the capital city Tbilisi is its beating heart.

The sixth Indigo Design Award Ceremony took place on the rooftop of the Stamba Hotel, with stunning views of the city. Winners from the US, Denmark, Korea, Japan, Russia, India, Austria, and Holland gathered to receive their certificates, mingle and network with some of the top designers in the world. Check out the highlights in the video below.

Among them was Jesper Bolther, director, designer, and animator based in Copenhagen. Jesper was awarded Freelancer of the Year.

He won the prize for the opening credits he crafted for the annual design event, We Love Graphic Design. This sequence is a deep dive into the vast possibilities of the contemporary graphic designer, from old-school Photoshop effects to beta-released Illustrator features, from AI images to computer-generated patterns to browser-based 3D.

Also being awarded trophies on stage were The Readymag team, who won Digital Design of the Year 2023. Readymag is a browser-based design tool that offers everything you need to make visually complex projects on the web: the most up-to-date typography, impressive animations, and complete creative freedom with no layout restrictions. You get a customisable grid and a blank page, so your imagination is the only limit.

Speakers at the ceremony

As well as the winners (which you can learn more about here), two speakers gave captivating talks during the event. Matteo Bonera, whose studio won Graphic Design of the Year in 2019, gave an inspiring speech about his career as creative director of The Visual Agency and as a professor at Politecnico di Milano, Italy. You can watch the full speech in the video below.

The audience also heard from Giorgi Popiashvili, a freelance graphic designer and creative director in Georgia. You can watch his full talk too, in the video below.
