Stunning Retro Cover Illustrations from The Satirical German-Language Magazine “Kladderadatsch”
The satirical German-language magazine Kladderadatsch (meaning “Crash” in an onomatopoeic sense) was launched in Berlin on May 7, 1848.
According to the Kladderadatsch, it was published every week or “daily, except for weekdays.” Both Albert Hofmann and David Kalisch, the son of a Jewish businessman and a prolific comedic writer, were instrumental in its founding. Circulation came to a halt in 1944.
