Illustrator Spotlight: Hoi Chan

A selection of recent work by Hong Kong-born illustrator Hoi Chan (previously featured here). Now based in New Orleans, Chan draws inspiration from his observations of nature and personal emotions. His work intricately weaves elements from the natural world and the complex emotions that reside within the human mind.

Having lived in both Hong Kong and New Orleans, the tropical environments of these two locales have had a significant impact on Chan’s artistic expression. From humidity-laden breezes and lush vegetation to abundant rainfalls, Chan crafts a distinctive colour palette with generous and inviting shapes. These elements not only reflect the external world that surrounds him, but serve as an extension of his emotional landscape and experiences.
