Last month I was invited to spend an hour talking to an audience about my passion for illustration, creative freelancing, and my life behind the scenes of Emmeline Illustration at the second Crazy Animal Face Block Party! Okay, I always get a little bit nervous before talks and panels no matter how often I do them; but the atmosphere and crowd were so welcoming (and the venue was so chilled out) it ended up being one of the most casual and comfortable events I've ever done!

Issue 41's cover, animated by Lucie Duclos!

The cover of our new issue is by UPPERCASE subscriber Lucie Duclos , whose colourful and patterned collages caught my eye on Instagram. I liked the idea of creating a cover with found patterns (plus a few from past UPPERCASE covers). It's abstract with a nod to mid-Century shapes, and the dimensional shadows make you think that the elements are still at play.

The Dog: Illustrated playing cards for Chatsworth House

‘The Dog’ is an exhibition at Chatsworth House which explores the Cavendish family’s love for dogs, through paintings, drawings, sculpture, letters, photographs and contemporary art. In order to engage young visitors with the exhibition, playing cards were devised which contained interesting facts. The cards encouraged children to find various breeds throughout the house, hidden within the various works of art.
