Each of Andreu Zaragoza’s illustrations come to life over a series of finely-tuned stages. His images are formed layer by layer from the initial inspiration and through the process of drawing that he has developed. While Andreu does employ a collection of digitally added textures to his work, his way of working still retains many traditional techniques for drawing.

So the Oscar’s was just a few days ago, and honestly I didn’t watch it. This year the ‘buzz’ was just not ‘buzzy’ However some creative graphic designers created their own poster versions of the 2019’s best picture nominees. I’ve see three of the movies, well actually 2 and a half, I haven’t finished watching Roma but I’ve seen A Star is Born and Black Panther, good movies!

This week I had the challenge of leading a ‘Gloriously Curious’ workshop for around 90 children at a school in Doncasterr. My book, ‘The Glorious Book of Curious Cocktails,’ had inspired a ridiculous recipe inventing session to teach young minds about literacy and encourage creative writing. The book is all about inventing disgustingly delicious concoctions, aimed at five to ten year olds who find traditional learning methods hard to engage with.

I love this drawing by the great Austin Briggs: I love its marvelous, fresh take on the running figure, partially obscured by the design of the flapping coat. Notice how Briggs was not enslaved by the coiled telephone wire; notice the way he added vigor to what could have been the boring color of the policeman's uniform. Briggs seized these elements and boldly made them into what he needed for the picture: Does it look like Briggs had trouble with the anatomy of hands?

I finished making a year's worth of Nona The Ninth comics today! It's been a great challenge to work on a monthly comic, and it feels pretty emotional to wrap up the story arc for now. I've really enjoyed drawing Nona and exploring/researching all kinds of science experiments, Victorian history and silly family moments. I'm looking forward to revisiting her soon (maybe in book form)!

Adobe’s principal designer Khoi Vinh was asked to share some words on stage at Why Design Tokyo, a new event for user experience design. The aim of Khoi’s talk was to encourage designers in Japan to “get out of their daily routines and take a new step” in their practice.
