Free Wallpaper for May 2019

Six Leaf Design

Hey friends! It’s May and I’m here for all the Justin Timberlake memes. The weather’s warming up, grass is getting greener and spirits are starting to lift. This month the free May wallpaper design is inspired by spring growth and is made from a recycled floral illustration that wasn’t used in a client’s logo design. But she deserved to have her day in the spotlight.

“Animal Farm” & the Evolution of the Dust Jacket

Thinking Design

What is the Purpose of a Book Cover? The thinking on this has changed dramatically during the evolution of modern trade publishing since the 1900s. Once book jackets were intended simply to protect the valuable binding. Actually, before 1820, books were sold as unbound gathered pages. The book buyer was responsible for getting the text blocks bound, presumably to match the rest of their library therefore no jacket or cover was supplied.

There is a collection of unusually shaped printed matter on my bookshelf. Tiny leaflets, fold-out books, really long flyers, giant kids’ books. Ask The Designer: Template Logos

Purple Rose Graphics

The other day, I had a meeting with a potential client looking for a logo for her new business. She asked to see my catalog. Completely confused, I thought she meant my portfolio book of past work. Unfortunately, she meant an actual catalog of template logos for her to choose from and have me personalize for her. I don’t really have a catalog like that since, as a graphic designer, I’ve always done everything from scratch.
