The hillside neighbourhood of Montmartre was the gathering place for some of the 19 th century’s greatest creatives. Located just outside of the then-Paris city limits, the area boasted no city taxes, and plenty of wine made by the nuns of Le Sacré Coeur. The district, which gave inspiration to the likes of Vincent Van Gogh, Emile Zola, Edgar Degas and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, was at the centre of the bohemian lifestyle trend.

It is alway inspiring and interesting to see such projects with strong financial and time constraint like the KULT barber shop in Odessa, Ukraine. Completed by interior design studio Sivak & Partners in just 3 months due to client expectation, they developed the concept for 1.5 months and spent another 1.5 months on construction work. The budget was small so they tried to create a unique space using simple materials.

Shot around New York City between 2010-17, Jeremiah Dine’s new photo book Daydreams Walking brings together unremarkable, everyday scenes and dramatic images of the city, which are thrown into relief through a strong blend of framing, lighting and timing. He was previously a studio assistant to legendary photographer Richard Avedon, but where Avedon was known for his stark portraits, Dine’s work places the city in the lead role.

The rise of photography in the mid-late 19th-century began the move away from an oral and literary tradition towards one based on image. To mark the celebration of the 50th anniversary of man’s landing on the moon (last summer 2019), urban artist SpY reproduced a first-quarter moon (waxing crescent) – which he installed on one of the construction cranes of the fifth tower of the Caleido complex, in the north of Madrid. The aim of the installation was to get passers-by involved in their city.
