Kyoto’s Spellbound

A Kyoto Spell-bounding Hotel

An immersively elegant stay at Sowaka Luxury Hotel

Kyoto is a spell bounding city. I am always thinking of its narrow streets, riverside walks, and the sounds of Kyoto which are just enchanting. My favorite city in the world.

Firstly, the city is so beautiful. Secondly, the history here is so poetic. Think alluring Gion – the Geisha district. Because of its historical buildings, temples, gardens, and the most fantastic gastronomy.

There you can find Sowaka , a new hotel where craftsmanship and Japanese hospitality have their most charming stage.

Sowaka means “happiness” and is often used as a word for blessings. Which is very suitable as the hotel is located within easy reach of many of these magical temples. As a result, you can feel immersed in chants from all around.

The Power of Craftsmanship

The hotel has 23 designed rooms, 11 heritage and 12 modern, that effuse of ethereal elegance, combining heritage with modern features. Therefore, carefully selected furniture designed by local Kyoto craftsmen populate the spaces.

Rooms count with high-grade natural wool mattresses from brand Iwata, in business since the 1830s. The mattresses are built with cashmere and camel hair, as a result producing a soft bounce that does not squeak.

Suites also have bespoke Bluetooth speakers made of Kitayama cedar wood by Kyoto Natural Factory. Bathrooms are japanese style and count with cedar wood immersion baths. Hence, craftsmanship here is the framework.

The hotel uses natural water drawn directly from the ground beneath their site. The water of Kyoto is known for its healing properties. The soft underground water is delicate on the skin and very pure.

A space of hospitality where you can feel the spirit of “suki”

The main building, formerly a traditional Japanese restaurant, was built in the end of the Taisho period. The space has been completely restored, following the original Sukiya architectural style.

Hence, you can find here the spirit of “suki” or “refined taste”, with elements of playfulness seen in the designs of traditional tea ceremony rooms.

Eating in Kyoto is very special. Hence, Gion is just a fantastic area of Kyoto to do just that. Experience innovative cuisine at La BomBance Gion or try the many sushi restaurants.

Therefore, I love walking from the Kenninji Temple and its stunning gardens on my way to Sushi Hananoi by Kyoto-born sushi master Takahiro Kawahara.

You can only book a place in this 3rd generation sushi experience via your hotel’s concierge, and I highly recommend the otherworldly experience.
