“Spectral” by Photographer Cody Cobb

Photographer Cody Cobb (previously featured here) captures a hidden layer of luminescence in the wilderness of the American West in his latest series, “Spectral.” From collapsed lava tubes lined with microbial mats to high elevations where lichens thrive, a strange fluorescence occurs when certain minerals and organic materials are subjected to the ultraviolet radiation. Using long exposures coupled with an ultraviolet light source, Cobb uncovers a parallel world otherwise invisible to the human eye. The eerie light that is emitted from within these once familiar surfaces transmutes the mundane into something extraterrestrial.
