Hello and welcome to Creative Nerds. In today’s Photoshop tutorial, we’ll be looking at the Expand Generative tool which allows you the ability to expand photos so you can make the width or the height bigger of any photo or any pattern or any background. So we’re going to start off by expanding this photo of this little boy in the woods. So we’re going to select the Crop tool. We want to change our fill to become Generative Expand and we want to ensure that Delete Crop Pixels is not checked. And then from there we’re simply just going to expand out the width and we can even increase the height if we wish. And then we’re going to select the Move tool and then it will start to generate our expansion. And then this just takes a few seconds but it’s all dependent on the size of the photo that you’re working with. And there you go, it’s done a great job of expanding the photo width and the height and it’s not even noticeable that it’s being expanded. And this can be done across a range of different photos. So here’s another example of a winter background. So we’re just going to expand out the width and I’m just going to go a little bit wider this time just to see how effective the effect works with an image like this. And then it’s the same process, ensure Generative Expand is selected and then select the Move tool. And then that will then go to work generating our effect. And it should just take a few seconds. But yeah, it’s all dependent on the size of the photo and the expansion. And there you go, it’s done a really good job of expanding our background to make the width wider and the height higher. I hope this is an effect that you can utilise in your design projects going forward in the future. Thanks for watching and stay tuned to Creative Nerds for further quick tips on how to use Photoshop.
