Big buzz around Instagram account @grandmagetsreal. Grandmother and former model turned toy designer, Tonya Ruiz features custom scenes and creates to depict what Barbie would be like in real life.

We know how Barbies have garnered attention for years because of their unrealistic proportionslack of diversity, and gendered activities. One of those reasons why Ruiz has gone viral with her sets of “Quarantine Barbies” that show how Barbie might react to a pandemic.

“When the quarantine started and I saw a couple of funny pandemic Barbies, I thought that I should make a Barbie that everyone could relate to. I created the quarantine starter pack: curvy doll in stretchy pants,” Ruiz says about the self-inspired doll that spurred the makeovers in a recent video.
