The Dog: Illustrated playing cards for Chatsworth House

‘The Dog’ is an exhibition at Chatsworth House which explores the Cavendish family’s love for dogs, through paintings, drawings, sculpture, letters, photographs and contemporary art. In order to engage young visitors with the exhibition, playing cards were devised which contained interesting facts. The cards encouraged children to find various breeds throughout the house, hidden within the various works of art.

I was commissioned to design and illustrated the eight cards and folder, all of which were beautifully illustrated throughout. The illustrations have a vintage style in order to reflect the history of the house and to add sophisitaction. The life-like illustrations enabled children to recognise the dogs more easily within the works of art and appeal to a wide range of ages.
