The traditional indigo is a reference to the “refined elegance and sophistication that exemplifies Japan” while the pattern is inspired by ‘inchimatsu moyo’ patterns from the Edo period (1603-1867). The torch has been inspired by Japan’s cherry blossoms with a pattern that resembles petals.

Descending from street level, the first room is an assemblage of shops signs, early 2000s Macs, various bricks, and a vitrine full of supermarket product packaging. Copies of 01 magazine come out, a youth culture publication from the 1990s and one of Karlopoulos’ early projects using digital publishing techniques.

Think stylised social media posts and posters of people in ideal exercise poses.
