Christian Louboutin, the luxury red-sole designer, celebrates the opening of ‘LouBhoutan’, an exhibit in collaboration with artisan students of Bhutan from the National Institute of Zorig Chusum. The collection bridges Bhutan’s 13 traditional royal crafts with Louboutin’s creative vision and appreciation of the beauty of the kingdom. “I always thought of Bhutan as an extraordinary country, “says Louboutin, “something straight out of a fairytale.”
Each piece beautifully incorporating Bhutanese iconography, arabesques, Buddhist lotuses, Himalayan flowers, and stylized hand-painted clouds that mimic the shades of heavens as reference to Bhutan’s reputation as the ‘Roof of the World.’ The foundation of each style were hand-carved in Bhutan, the uppers were designed by Louboutin and made in Italy. The designer and Phillips Auction House hosted a preview and immersion event in NYC to mark the launch.
