Ai Weiwei and Solange Knowles team up with WeTransfer as it redesigns its creative platform

It's a big day for WeTransfer as the popular file-sharing service reveals two pieces of news that will appeal to artists. As well as launching a redesign of its creative platform WePresent with a 10-rule manifesto by Ai Weiwei, Solange Knowles has also been announced as WeTransfer Guest Curator 2022.

For those familiar with downloading WeTransfer files in the nick of time before they expire but are not aware of its creative branch, WePresent is the service's Oscar-winning commissioner and Cannes Lions award-winning digital arts platform. Designed to be one of the most representative creative platforms on the internet, WePresent pushes the boundaries of digital design and expression.

To create a new look platform that takes digital experiences one step further by empowering the audience to take control, WePresent worked with creative agency Bureau Visual Affairs (BVA). It then commissioned new and exclusive work from Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter and visual artist Solange.

New features on the site will allow visitors to experience content in their preferred way. Inspired by the "evolving habits of consumers", WePresent introduces new functionalities such as an audio player for long-read stories, a 'highlight reel' which condenses a story into its key elements for on-the-go reading, a film playlist, and a reading list that allows users to save stories for later. They can even pick up where they left off with a 'jump in' module.

"As WeTransfer's cultural torchbearer to a growing monthly audience of 3 million, our vision is for WePresent to continue collaborating with artists to create work that pushes the boundaries of creativity while becoming the most representative creative platform in the world," says Editor in Chief of WePresent, Holly Fraser.

"From the Oscar-winning film commission with Riz Ahmed to world-changing online art experiences developed in collaboration with Marina Abramović, our new site will be a unique destination for the arts. Our audience will be able to explore an Artist Directory of almost 1,000 artists from over 100 countries around the world that WePresent has worked with so far while engaging with cultural content in new ways, be that through audio, interactive experiences, long-form pieces or programmed events."

Spearheading this new iteration of WePresent is Solange Knowles, who will follow Marina Abramović as WePresent's first Guest Curator in 2021. Renowned as a pioneer across the fields of music, visual art and performance, the year-long collaboration is designed to "inspire radical collaborations that amplify vital voices and conceptual imagining across art, design and architecture."

The first part of her Curatorship will see Solange shine a spotlight on four artists from across the world, including Dozie Kanu, Elliott Jerome Brown Jr., Autumn Knight and Jacolby Satterwhite. By presenting them on WeTransfer via a digital exhibition supported by features on WePresent, Solange will explain what it is about each artist's practice that makes them unique.

Speaking about being WeTransfer's next Guest Curator, Solange Knowles, Founder, Creative & Art Director of Saint Heron said, "I am delighted to be working with WePresent this year to uplift vital voices in art and design, starting with a selection of artists who I feel are pushing boundaries to create new worlds and experiences for audiences to discover for years to come"
