Dentista dental clinic in Amsterdam

Amsterdam’s Dentista is out to rethink trips to the dentist for the self-care crowd. With the help of design studio i29, the dental clinic has opened a practice that forgoes the drab feel of most clinical environments in favour of bright natural light, warm woods and abundant greenery. The end result successfully encourages patients to think of an oral checkup less as a dreaded routine obligation, and more as a relaxing spa treatment.

The clinic’s wellness-inspired identity starts with its timber-slat facade, which is punctuated by a series of large windows that greet visitors with views of friendly plants rather than intimidating dental equipment.

Inside, the office adopts a two-toned palette made up of a crisp pearly white and a fresh minty green. The front waiting area embraces this green hue from floor to ceiling, with everything from the reception desk to the chairs splashed in the same consistent colour. (A wooden nook built into a side wall provides additional seating and a hit of textural contrast.)

Just beyond this entry zone, a white corridor leads to the office’s examination rooms. Apart from establishing a bold graphic look, the clinic’s colour blocking also serves to visually delineate different functions. Communal areas like the lobby and staff kitchen make strong use of green, while rooms for checkups, cleanings and procedures largely favour a bleached-out aesthetic that creates an intrinsic link to hygiene and healthcare. That said, green still makes the occasional appearance for a select accent or feature wall.

To ensure that the office’s examination rooms feel more serene than stark, i29 organized them around a landscaped interior courtyard. Adding to this sense of openness, the rooms are separated from the main hallway by transparent glass walls. Timber framing around these walls introduces an element of warmth, while a semi-opaque striped treatment preserves a sense of privacy.

With Dentista planning to potentially open additional locations down the road, it was important for i29 to establish a distinctive physical look and feel that could be easily translated to future offices. No matter how many clinics Dentista eventually operates, one thing seems certain: its distinctive white-and-green colour combo is sure to inspire many smiles.
