Verve's New Flash Brew Coffee Creates and Instantly Recognizable System

Grabbing a flash brew in the morning is an easy decision to make, thankfully Verve and Colony have made sure that morning cold brew is sleek and elegant. Continuing the slash color block system Verve is known for, these flash brews utilize a capitalized beige font encased in a black outline, that further establishes Verve as a luxury coffee company with a knack for making sophisticated products. With a fridge full of Verve flash brews stocked, you'll be ready to take on the week in style.

We wanted to carry the legacy of the system we’d already created for Verve’s whole bean coffee into the design for Flash Brew, using the diagonally split color block as the base for the can. The bold combination of white and color split on the diagonal creates a strong and instantly recognizable system. This serves as an effective billboard at retail, where most coffee offerings float in a sea of brown and beige.

Featuring white prominently also speaks to a clean product: total transparency, no filler. Flash Brew’s ingredient list is short and simple, filtered water and their direct trade coffee. This is reflected in the visuals of the design, reinforced by the messaging on the package.

The three main products (Original, Single Origin, and Decaf) are differentiated through the use of color and typography. Each variety has a unique hue and dynamic typography, which work in unison to give the brand a tight, iconic aesthetic.

We also created a logo lockup unique to the Flash Brew product line to be used beyond packaging. The badge is clean and bold, which complements the can design, but also has a slight heritage feel as a nod to the legacy of the brand and the Verve logotype itself. In addition to the logo lockup, we created a sub-set of ephemeral graphics that can be used on stickers, shirts, patches, and other merchandise. Each design was created to bring a playful, irreverent touch to the product category.
