Photographer Spotlight: Desiré van den Berg

A selection of recent images by Amsterdam-based photographer Desiré van den Berg (previously featured here and here). Working at the intersection of documentary and fine art, van den Berg’s style is informed by her beginnings as a nightlife reportage photographer and her ongoing interest in fashion and subcultures.

These images are a visual diary of sorts—documenting life during and since the mandatory COVID lockdowns. Domestic still lifes, socially distanced portraits of friends in their new face masks, hospitals heavily hit by coronavirus, documentation of the Black Lives Matter protests in the Netherlands; van den Berg’s subject matter has adapted to the times, creating a photographic time capsule of her experience through these unique moments.
