Chinese Army Girls: The Superb Oil Paintings of Hu Ming
Hu Ming was born in 1955 into the family of an officer in the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. She herself also followed in her father’s footsteps and rose to the rank of major, but her main passion has always been painting.
A series of paintings of girls in the military ranks is the most expressive of Hu Ming’s work. Instead of skinny girls she painted strong, but incredibly sexy female Communist Party fighters, standing shoulder to shoulder with men at the machines and on the battlefields. True retro realism, a perfect blend of brutality and tenderness.
