PHOTOGRAPHY 2020 HIGHLIGHTS: Tadd Myers and James Martin Catch Gold and Silver with Dramatic Photojournalistic Visuals

Texan Tadd Myers’ winning entry, “Little Cranberry Island Lobstermen – Series 1” (above) got up close and personal capturing day-in-the-life vignettes alongside the lobstermen who sustainably fish the waters off the coast of this rugged little stretch of Maine. Myers takes you on a real-world journey through the lens of his elegant yet earthy and gritty detailed images.

Tadd Myers also won Gold in this competition for ‘Series 2’ of the Cranberry Island shoot, and his ‘AHMSA Steel Series’.

“Unit 3 Reactor, Fukushima” scored Silver for San Francisco Photojournalist, James Martin with his compelling photo (above).  As part of CBS Interactive, he covers technology companies around the world documenting their impacts. This entry chronicles the selfless men working at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Japan, the site of one of the world’s worst nuclear accidents in history.

In capturing these rare images, Martin was only allowed 10 minutes to shoot due to the high levels of radiation. Workers were covered head-to-toe in protective suits, helmets, gloves, and masks revealing the reality and dangers of these exposed workers and the post-apocalyptic atmosphere of the power plant.

Martin’s prowess as a photographer also won Gold for his ‘Steve Jobs Theater’.
